Lecturer in Indigenous Health, The University of Melbourne
Shawana is an academic with a clinical background in social work and public health, and has a wealth of experience working in Aboriginal paediatric and mental health. She is currently a lecturer in Indigenous Health in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne, and leads the Indigenous curriculum development for the School. In this role, Shawana has led the development of the Many Ways Learning—Indigenous Curriculum Framework, which was recently launched during National Reconciliation Week. She also spearheaded the university’s Indigenous cultural walk—Billibellary’s Walk. Shawana has recently been awarded a University Excellence Award for Innovation in Indigenous Education, and a national citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning.
